Passionfruit industry communications program (PF22001)

Key research provider: Passionfruit Australia
Publication date: Thursday, August 7, 2025

What was it all about?

From 2022 to 2025, this program delivered clear, consistent and timely information to passionfruit growers and stakeholders across Australia. It strengthened industry connections and supported better decision‑making by keeping growers informed about levy‑funded R&D, pest and disease management, biosecurity, and market developments. The project ensured that all growers—from new entrants to long‑established producers—had reliable access to the latest industry knowledge.

The program delivered a regular mix of communication channels tailored to different grower preferences. This included bi‑monthly Passiflora e‑newsletters, an annual printed Passion Vine journal, frequent email alerts, and ongoing updates to the industry website, including a new resource library. The project also delivered multiple regional field days and a joint industry event, giving growers the opportunity to learn directly from experts, participate in farm walks, and share experiences with peers.

The program responded to the challenge of an industry spread across diverse regions, with growers operating at different scales and with varying levels of digital engagement. By offering information in multiple formats—digital, print, and face‑to‑face—it ensured that all growers could access advice and R&D outcomes in the way that suited them best. This helped address issues such as changing variety performance, increasing costs, and evolving pest and disease pressures.

The program is expected to support improved productivity and sustainability across the passionfruit sector. Growers will continue to benefit from easier access to practical resources, stronger industry networks, and clearer pathways to adopt new R&D findings and best‑practice management. Field days, in particular, are likely to keep driving practice change, while ongoing digital and printed communications will help growers stay informed and connected.
